Vintage Hanten short winter coat is padded with a layer of wadded cotton. This style coat started to be worn, especially by the common people, in the 18th C. Edo Period. It may be worn by both men and women tho this particular piece is quite small.

Clothing of this type was really for the poor. They pieced fabrics together to construct their clothing which seen here, was hidden on the inside. It is visually just as interesting, if not more, than the outside.
